Asamorewidelysharedknowledgethanever,povertyinthethirdworldisaninevitablecauseofallthechaosafflictingtheworld,fromcrimes,regionalconfrontationstoterrorism,evenpandemics.Onthismoreandmoreglobalizedworld,anationcouldnolongerbeexemptfromtheunstablenessandmiserysufferedbyitsneighbouringcountries.Eventhecryfromthefarawayendoftheglobewillbebroughttoyourearsthroughallthelinksandties.Itis,therefore,aconsensusamongboththerichandthepoorthatonlywhenpovertyiseliminatedonceandforall,canpeaceandprosperitybeattainedandsustained.Tothiscommonend,theonlypossiblewayistoengagerichcountriesinhelpingpooronesgenerouslyandunconditionally.

Sureenough,therearesomehigh-profilescandalsoffundmisuse.It’salsotrueforeignaiddidfostercorruptionandirresponsiblepolicymakinginsomecountries.Yet,thisshouldnotserveastheexcuseofwithdrawingthesemostneededaidswhicharesupposedtoandalsoprovedtosavelivesanddeliverhopes.Aloosegovernanceorcorruptivegovernmentcannotcanceloffthedesperateneedsofitspeople.Ontheotherhand,therearesomeeffectivemeasurescanbetakentoavoid,atleasttosomeextent,suchundesirablesituations,forinstance,strengtheningthesupervisionoffunddisbursement,deliveringaidsthroughthenetworkofnon-governmentalorganizations,orhelpingtopromoterecipientcounties’governanceandmanagement.

Inotherwords,theabusesinvolvedwithforeignaidscanbecheckedthroughotheravailablemeansratherthanjustabandoningthewholepackagealtogether.AsImentionedabove,thereishardlyanywaymoreeffectivethaninternationalaidsinfightingworldhungeranditstragicconsequences.Onnoaccountswouldwegiveuponourshareddreamofcreatingaplanetfreefromtearsandbleeding.Solet’sworktogethertoholdtherichcountriesaccountableinthistoughbattle.
